Elvis and KAAAV
In 2003, KAAAV and Volunteer
Kingston (now Volunteer &
Information Kingston) were
approached by PAVR-O,
Professional Administrators of
Volunteer Resources - Ontario,
to plan and host their 2005 annual professional conference.  As is
customary, representatives from
the conference planning team
attended the 2004 conference in
Alliston to get a feel for how to run
the conference and to promote
the 2005 conference in Kingston.
The Alliston 2004 team planned a Karaoke contest, “PAVR-O Idol”, for
the delegates with Elvis as the prize.  Needless to say the winner was
appalled at the tackiness of her prize and entrusted him to the Kingston
team for the 2005 version of PAVR-O Idol.

Karaoke did not happen at the 2005 conference although Elvis was in
attendance and featured very prominently at the Information Desk.
Rather KAAAV members adopted Elvis as the Association's mascot.
He has been in the care of a member of the Executive ever since and
makes regular appearances at meetings and events.

All has not been smooth sailing, though.  Elvis has been repaired
several times as the result of several falls and a car accident while in
the care of one of our beloved past presidents.

The 2005 PAVR-O Conference set a high bar for future conferences,
realizing the first ever profit in the conference’s history ($28,000)
and securing the financial future of PAVR-O.  Elvis stands as a reminder
of the strength of the partnership between KAAAV and Volunteer &
Information Kingston and of the dedication and the devotion of Kingston
and Area Volunteer Managers to the promotion of the profession of
volunteer management.
